Bladder Cancer

Bladder Cancer

The cancer may start if the immune system fails to eliminate all cells that changed their DNA. This means, they grow abnormally and form certain masses called tumors. In a case of a bladder cancer, that mass happens in the bladder. A part of the urinary tract that stores urine is called the bladder. Most of the bladder cancers are found early. If the treatment starts in the early stage, there are high chances for success. The most common type of the bladder cancer is transitional cell cancer. It most cases, it happens among people that are in their 60s. This type of bladder cancer starts in the inner layer of the bladder.

Scientists still don’t know why this cancer occurs, but exposing to certain chemicals and smoking increase the risk. Symptoms are: feeling pain while you urinate, blood in your urine or need to urinate too often. Because all of those symptoms can be caused by several other problems (one of them is urinary tract infection), you should go to the doctor. Your doctor will: ask you about your medical history, test your urine, perform a vaginal or rectal exam or do a cystoscopy (looking into the bladder with a small lighted viewing tool).

The treatments are the same as any other cancer. They include surgery, chemotherapy (medicine that should destroy cancer cells), radiation therapy (uses X-rays to kill cancer cells) or immunotherapy (causes your immune system to attack cancer cells). In most cases, the treatment is successful, and it doesn’t require removing the bladder. In some cases, a doctor must remove the bladder. Then a person stores urine in a bag outside the body. Luckily, a doctor may be able to make a new bladder (using other tissues).
